A Los Angeles jury has unanimously cleared Cardi B of all assault and battery claims filed by former security guard Emani Ellis in a $24 million civil lawsuit. The legal system has spoken in less than an hour of deliberation, the 12-member jury found Cardi not liable, meaning no financial damages for Ellis.
Ellis had alleged that Cardi spat on her, scratched her face so severely it required plastic surgery, and used racial slurs during a 2018 encounter at a Beverly Hills OB-GYN office. Cardi B testified emphatically that there was no physical contact, only a heated verbal disagreement initiated by a privacy concern amid her secret pregnancy.
Witnesses from the OB-GYN office including a receptionist and a doctor, confirmed they observed no physical altercation, bolstering Cardi’s account.
After the verdict, Cardi told reporters:
“I did not touch that woman… I will countersue if buried again in a frivolous lawsuit.”
She also asked her fans to refrain from harassing Ellis and her family online.
