NEW YORK — A Manhattan jury delivered a partial verdict in Harvey Weinstein’s sexual assault retrial Wednesday, convicting the former Hollywood mogul of sexually assaulting one woman over a decade ago.
The jury acquitted him of assaulting another woman but failed to reach a consensus on a third count, prompting Judge Curtis Farber to urge continued deliberations Thursday. The unanimous guilty verdict marks a significant moment in the #MeToo movement, reinforcing accountability for powerful figures.
However, the acquittal and indecision on the remaining counts highlight the challenges of prosecuting historical assault cases, where evidence and witness testimony often face intense scrutiny. Weinstein, already serving a sentence from a prior conviction, faces further legal consequences pending the final verdict.
The jury’s split decision reflects differing interpretations of the allegations, with the deadlocked count suggesting unresolved debates over credibility or legal definitions of consent.
Deliberations resume Thursday as the court seeks a complete verdict. The outcome could shape perceptions of #MeToo-era prosecutions and influence future assault cases.
